minimal psych/folk duo jesse and the revelator are back with their most ambitious album yet, a strange, home made, rambling concept album called 'an hour with jesse and the revelator'. it opens with a song titled in cyrillic that is a subtle sound collage, to introduce you to the narrative ambitions.
the songs that follow get looser and more rock'n'roll than previous efforts, and tell some kind of story about international travelling and unavoidable fates. the lofi intimacy that characterized earlier stuff is still there, but jesse and the revelator stretch out on this release, both musically and thematically. i found some favorite tunes in the album's middle...the ditch rocker 'from a mercedes 190' and the mountain drone ballad 'bird in the cage'.
get it here.
